Mission Statement

Opportunity Builders, Inc. (OBI) provides a progression of vocational training and employment services to individuals with developmental disabilities in order to increase self worth, promote independence and prepare them to work as valued employees in the community.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

Opportunity Builders strives to provide all individuals with a work environment were they can reach their maximum level of productivity and community integration. Opportunity Builders have numerous contracts that enable individuals to remain productive in Opportunity Builders' packaging program, as well as, in the community. Individual choice and rights are a priority and considered routinely while assisting individuals in selecting work and community jobs. Other unique services that are offered to the individuals at Opportunity Builders include computer classes, music therapy, adult basis education, and recreation and leisure activities.

The results of the survey are reviewed by staff and the quality assurence committee and assist OBI in determining areas to focus on for improvement and goal setting.

The "Ask Me!" Survey Results is available for the general public.

Describe your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations.

Opportunity Builders asks each individual served to complete a customer satisfaction survey, which reviews their experiences with its programs. OBI uses a Driver Check as a reporting mechanism for unsafe driving in the community. Random drug testing is done to assure staff are drug free. The Quality Assurance Committee, which includes staff; board members; family members; and community representatives, review incidents, make recommendations and report back to the Board of Directors. OBI is accredited by the Division of Rehabilitation Services.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

Individuals are offered various community opportunities, including individual job placements, enclaves, volunteering, and community outings. OBI offers individuals at its agency an opportunity to participate in a civic organization through Friendship Civitan Club. This group is made up of OBI clients, staff and community members. They meet monthly and have activities that benefit the community, as a whole.

Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services

  1. Tour facility
  2. Trial period for evaluation (occasionally)
  3. Provide information such as physical and psychological evaluation.

Special Considerations/Comments: Individuals must have a primary diagnosis of Mental Retardation.

Funding Sources: Developmental Disabilities Administration, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Contract Work, Contributins and fundraising.
