Mission Statement

Linwood's mission is to create opportunities and provide supports for those who fall within the autism spectrum. As a resource for these individuals and their families, we facilitate access to programs and services that enhance their well-being. Through education, vocational training, social awareness, direct support and advocacy, Linwood ensures full participation in community life. This includes cultivating personal growth, self-advocacy, autonomy, increased public awareness and acceptance of people with developmental disabilities.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

Founded in 1955, Linwood is recognized as a pioneer in the fields of autism. Its positive behavioral supports, along with its strong conviction to protect the fundamental rights and self-determination of the people it supports, have been a foundation at Linwood throughout the decades, in both its school and adult services program. Joining its convictions with its time-tested expertise in providing supports for people on the autism spectrum, Linwood's full range of services allows the participants in its program to take full advantage of the resources in their communities, including living in nice homes, employment at integrated work sites and participation in volunteer and recreational activities.

Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me" Survey Results.

The results of the "Ask Me!" Survey place Linwood in the company of a very few agencies whose participants expressed virtually complete satisfaction with all aspects of their program. Linwood is proud of these results and use them as a benchmark for creating future opportunities.

Discuss your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations

Linwood's QA Plan specifically addresses quality of life issues, community integration and socialization, the health and safety of the individuals whom Linwood supports, safety issues in the home, individual plans, the use of restrictive procedures and incident reporting.

Annually, Linwood surveys its adults utilizing criteria adapted from "Ask Me!" survey created by Bonham Research. The data is obtained through interviews conducted each June by Linwood's Quality Assurance Monitor and reviewed by its Standing Committee each October. Furthermore, its Standing Committee meets quarterly to review all incident reports (behavioral and medical) and all behavior plans.

As an agency Linwood has instituted a self-monitoring system where both internal and external staff persons check program sites and program documentation at regular intervals and report any dicrepancies in a timely.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

Through the self-determination process Linwood ascertain each individual's interests, needs and desires regarding community involvement. Linwood then provides staff to facilitate the individual's access to the places and events decided upon by the individual and the IP team.

Individuals have the choice to access supported employment options located within local employers integrated, community-based worksites. Recreationally, individuals participate in a wide range of community activities ranging from YMCA memberships, to horseback riding, to church activities, to vacations such as Disney World, Ocean City and Deep Creek Resort.

Individuals also regularly access services in their community, such as restaurants, beauty shops, banks, grocery stores, etc.
