Residential Services, Family Support Services, Individual Support Services, Summer Programs/Camps and Vacations, Transportation and Community Supported Living Arrangements.

Individuals Have the Following Types of Disabilities:
Autism, Behavioral Problems, Blindness/Severe Visual Impairment, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy/Seizure Disorder, Head Injury, Mental Retardation, Mental Disorder, Multiple Sclerosis, Orthopedic Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Speech/Language Impairment, Spina Bifida, other neurological Impairment, and other undetermined disabilities.

Mission Statement

LIFE is a private, non-for-profit agency helping adults with developmental disabilities lead dignified, healthy and fulfilling lives within the community.

LIFE's mission is to serve adults with developmental disabilities and to educate the community about the needs of these individuals

LIFE is dedicated to facilitating personal growth and enabling those in its care to be visibly active in community life

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

Life is a size that allows a direct focus by senior management on each individual's needs. Staff meets regularly to review individual's progress in meeting medical, social and other important goals. This involved oversight assures that program quality is maintained and any potential problems are addressed immediately.

LIFE Makes available a full gamut of services such as psychologial evaluation, individual program planning, residential supervision and support, nursing, dietary services, counseling, independent living skills training, transportation within the community, budget planning and support, socialization, recreation and in-home supports.

LIFE also owns a full-service travel agency that provides customized vacation programs to individuals residing with LIFE and to others who require special assistance when they travel.

LIFE assists individuals in acquiring access to other meaningful activities such as job training and placement, physical, occupational and speech therapies, day services and recreation programs.

LIFE has a quality assurance professional on staff who regularly checks all homes for policy and procedure compliance.

Life is committed to delivering support and services of the highest quality. Quality is measued in a number of ways:

Life is licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and mental Hygiene, Develeopmental Disabilities Administration. LIFE is a member of the Brain Injury Association of Maryland, the Ctaonsville Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland Association of Non-Profit Organizations, the Association of Community Services of Howard County and the Maryland Association of Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

LIFE believes that every individual's greatest need is to be a productive part of the community at large, with rights and responsiblities

LIFE promotes responsible, self-directed community participation by assisting residents to attain their maximum capabilities, emotional maturity and living skills through education, training and employment opportunities.

LIFE takes an active role in making agency homes and their residents a contributing factor to surrounding community. Some residents participate in local service organizations such as Knights of Columbus and community recreation activities such as bowling leagues.

LIFE purchased a travel agency in order to make assisted travel available to its residents and others who have special needs.

Special Considerations/Comments: LIFE operates 30 homes in Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard Counties and has continually received high marks from licensing, funding and referral organizations for quality of care and operational excellence.

LIFE was named 2005 "Service Provider of the Year" by the Howard County Commission of Disabilities based on a nomination by the Department of Social Services.

Funding Sources: Developmental Disabilities Administration, Medical Assistance, Medicare, other Insurance, and Private pay.
