Mission Statement

Community Support Services, Inc. is committed to the provision of quality community-based services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Individuals will be supported in accordance with their needs in school, work, home and the community. Services to be provided may include, but not limited to, the following: job development; job coaching; transportation; money management; recreational skill development; instruction and supervision in the home; and, behavioral management. Services are designed jointly by individual, the individual's family, others who know the individual well, CSS staff and expert consultants. Services are rendered in the environments in which the individual desires to live, work, recreate or pursue educational goals. Services are fashioned to support each individual to pursue his/her own self-directed life goals.

CSS (CSS) provides a broad spectrum of services for a range of persons with disabilities, including those who require intensive individualized services.

Individuals participated in the "Ask Me!" survey. The results indicated a high level of satisfaction with CSS. CSS has continued practices, with which consumers continue to express a high degree of satisfaction. CSS recognizes the importance of self-advocacy, and started a self-advocacy group to help its consumers more strongly pursue thier own self-directed life goals.

Discuss your quality assurance practices, including any agency accreditations

CSS utilizes an internal process for insuring quality assurance. Data is collected on client progress. Every client's progress is reviewed monthly and specific plans are reviewed on a regular basis. Programmatic quality is reviewed through monthly status program. In addition, CSS Board of Directors completes and annual internal evaluation of quality assurance, including customer satisfaction, programmatic quality, and staff qualifications. Finally, the state of Maryland conducts and external evaluation at regular intervals.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

CSS assesses each individual's needs, desires, and preferences with respect to community involvement, including community recreation and vocational interests. An individual's needs, desires, and preferences are prescribed, through a team that meets regularly. CSS's residential program includes focus on community access and on developing the skills necessary for the individual to successfully engage his/her community. Specifically, programmatic focus includes emphasis on participating in generic and specialized resources in the community for recreation, leisure, socialization opportunities, utilizing public transportation, and other areas as identified by the individual and/or family. CSS's vocational program emphasizes job development, on-the job support, and transportation to ensure the successful acquisition and retention of employment. Programmatic focus also includes behavior management, increasing job related skills, appropriate work behavior, interviewing, obtaining and maintaining employment through direct hire or volunteer position in an area of interest, job coaching, socialization opportunities, utilizing public transportation, nd other areas as identified by the individual and/or family. This broad spectrum of residential and vocational services helps individuals become active, integral members of the communities.

Steps Individuals Must Take to Apply for Services

Parents of individuals, and in some cases the individuals themselves, must request services by contacting the Executive Director.

Funding Sources: Developmental Disabilities Administration, the Collaboration Council, MCPS, Montgomery County, Individuals served pay fees for assistance provided on the basis of income, federal programs, local governments, private funding sources, donations and contributions.
