NCIA Adult Residential Services are offered in alternative living unit and individual family care models and include 24-hour awake supervision. Our staff provides on-going skills training and support in activities of daily living, functional life skills, personal care skills, and basic health care. We customize skills training based on our individuals' preferences, interests, and needs, and as stipulated by their individual treatment plans.
Case management and advocacy is provided for each individual throught interdisciplinary team meetings, monitoring of individual plans, and assurance of the delivery of specified services through on-going advocacy efforts and interventions.
The therapeutic supports provided to participants of NCIA Adult Residential Services reflect the same level of attention to the needs and values of the individuals as do the skill training services available. We provide nursing care as required by individual needs, including training and monitoring, use of inhalers and nebulizers, administration of oxygen, special dietary needs, and dressing changes.
NCIA's nursing staff also provides scheduled site visitation, 45-day nursing assessments, monitors side effects of psychotropic medications, develops and monitors the Nursing Plan of Care for each individual, and servies as a liaison between participants and their physicians.
Evaluation of psychotropic medications, psychiatric evaluations and emergency intervention, and counseling for hospital admissions and discharges are available through our mental health staff. Individual and group psychological counseling, as well as sexuality therapy, are also available. Behavioral support plans are developed for each individual, integrating psychiatric, behavioral, and therapeutic treament through comprehensive and integrated clinical services.
NCIA Adult Career Development Services utilize a flexible treatment model which allows individuals to participate in training and employment opportunities designed to meet their complex and changing needs.
Supported employment helps program participants obtain and maintain competitive employment within their communities. NCIA currently has supervised placements within fast food restaurants, commercial building maintenance companies, and landscaping firms.
Enclave placement provides paid training to individuals who require additional skills in areas of interest, are transitioning from one placement to another, or have special needs that prevent them from succeeding in the community placement.
Vocational training services teach individuals vocational skills that prepare them for competitive employment in the community. The services include vocational assessment activities, job training, work skills training, social skills training, safety skills, and work related hygiene training. Individuals also participate in several in-house enclave placements, such as customer service, housekeeping, landscaping, and mail room services.
This program addresses communication, socialization, physical, mental, and behavioral needs. Its participants concentrate on self-care skills, personal hygiene, eating skills, food preparation skills, leisure activities, and community involvement. Some may also enter our pre-vocational program, where they learn such basic skills as collating and manipulating small items, and functioning in a simulated work environment. Behavioral difficulties are addressed therapeutically through crisis intervention and counseling. We also have a sensory stimulation room, where a soothing combination of sound, scent, light, and color bring about a calmer state of mind.
