Ardmore provides supports to empower individuals with developmental disabilities. Believing that each individual should determine the direction of his/her life, Ardmore is committed to providing such supports within a safe environment; promoting choice, responsibility, maximum self-sufficiency, and full community involvement.
Ardmore offers a continuum of services so that each person is served according to his/her potential. Day supports include job development, placement, and training to facilitate community employment with local business; paid contract work and work adjustment skill development (i.e. good work ethics and habits, attention to task, accepting supervision) at the Mitchellville Work Center, as well as training and support in activities of daily living (i.e. eating, caring for belongings, social skills), and behavior support services. Depending on need, a person may take advantage of all, or just some, available services. Residential supports are offered in single-family homes throughout Prince George's County, with emphasis on participation in the local community, building and maintaining relationships with family and friends, and enjoying an active, fulfilling life.
Ardmore was surveyed by the "Ask Me!" project for fiscal years 2002, 2004, and 2006. Scores were used to help identify areas of weakness, which were addressed through a variety of training opportunities for staff and individuals receiving services, as well as review of agency protocols that needed strengthening in order to ensure that supports and services are mission-focused. A plan for continued improvement included significant changes to the individual planning process, with success evidenced by subsequent scores indicating steadily improving quality of life.
The "Ask Me!" Survey Results is available for the general public.
Ardmore's quality assurance practices are developed and monitored through cooperative effort of the Board of Directors, the Quality Assurance Committee, and agency staff. The Quality Assurance Director coordinates these activities, most of which are outlined in the Annual Quality Assurance Action Plan. Focus areas include health and safety, staff training, behavior support services, and individual personal development. An annual summary of Activities and analysis of related data is submitted to the Board, the Quality Assurance Committee, and DDA. A revised Action Plan for continued improvement is also submitted for review and approval.
Ardmore has earned the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organization's Standards of Excellence accreditation. Based on the fundamental values of honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, compassion, and responsibility, this accreditation requires demonstrated ethics and accountability in program operations, governance, human resources, fiscal management, and fundraising.
Residential services are provided in homes that reflect the local community; individuals are supported to partake in activities on the local level (church, shopping, festivals), and to volunteer for the community activities that reflect their specific interests (for example, one man is an active member of the Park Police Volunteer Association, another helps at the Humane Society). Developing natural (un-paid) supports is encouraged to ensure longevity and real participation, regardless of changes in staff.
Employment services are focused on developing jobs in the local community, where again, natural relationships with co-workers, supervisors, as well as friends and family, are encouraged to create the kind of inter-dependence most people experience in their work life.
Special Considerations/Comments: Individual must have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation, and there must be a reasonable expectation that she/he will benefit from the services offered.
