Mission Statement

The Arc of Frederick County provides advocacy, access to resources, assistance in increasing individual and family connections for for people with developmental disabilities. The organization seeks creative solutions to help people with developmental disabilities attain their goals.

Unique or Distinctive Qualities

The Arc of Frederick County was founded by parents in 1958 and has a successful history of supporting people effectively.

The Arc of Frederick County provides individually designed vocational and residential support services based on each person's deisres and dreams. Services vary depending on an individual goals. Examples include: acting as a funding conduit to allow individuals to employ their own staff, facilitation of a variety of support groups, transition planning from school to the adult world, and futures and estate planning. The Arc supports people to be active, contributing members of their communities.

The Arc of Frederick County reviews the "Ask Me!" survey results and shares with staff and Board of Directors. Its scores are consistently above the sate average when compared with other agencies. It is its goal to continue to support people to live lives of their own choice.

The Arc of Frederick County has an established history of formally reviewing the quality of its services and adjusting the manner of providing services when necessary. The Arc of Frederick County Quality Assurance Committee members contact people its serves individually and asks about what they think of the services it provides to them and what changes they want. The committee then meets on a monthly basis to review and make recommendations regarding quality assurance data and outcomes

The Quality Assurance Committee is a subcommittee of The Arc of Frederick County's Board of Directors. The Committee is comprised of Community volunteers, a self-advocate, a parent of a person with a disability, and representatives from the Board of Directors.

How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of Their Community?

The Arc of Frederick County provides individually based services to support people to become active members of their communities. Recent examples include: supporting a young woman with autism to publish and promote her first children's book, the inception of a leadership class at a local university for transitioning age students, facilitation of Working Together Self-Advocacy Group to build reciprocating relationships within its community, and the creation of Real World weekends to assist adults with a variety of independent living skills challenges to help prepare someone to live in their own apartment.
