Unique or Distinctive Qualities
Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region provides short-term respite services in homes of families and staff in the county. Residential services offered in one, two, and three person settings for children and adults. In CSLA services, most people live alone or with a companion. Arc fosters self-determination. Supports are designed to meet specific choices and needs. Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region provides dynamic support within the community for individuals seeking assistance that results in real choices, responsibilities, power and opportunities. Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region promotes community education on issues related to mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
Discuss How Your Agency Has Utilized The "Ask Me!" Survey Results
The Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region uses the Ask Me survey as one of the many tools to evaluate the quality of services that it provides to the individuals it supports. The Arc analyzes this information along with individuals surveys to choose the top three support goals. Being an Arc, its goals are aligned with the self-determination, the quality of services that the individuals receive will be enhanced. It is only through stronger community connections and the expansion of friendships that people will perceive their life as improving.

The Arc has established a volunteer Quality Enhancement standing committee lead by non-board volunteers. This committee has established an overall quality enhancement plan to seek to enhance the services to the individuals The Arc supports self-determination. The Arc believes that individuals who are living self-determined lives is the best way to assure quality.
The Arc is currently in the process of applying to the The Council to begin the accreditation process.
How Does Your Agency Support People In Becoming Active Members Of The Community?
First and foremost, The Arc believes that all people need to be active in their community regardless of their disability. The Arc Facilitates people being active members of their community by being paid members of their home owners association, attending their local churches, have bank accounts near their home, shopping in local grocery stores, attending local dances and other such community events.
A number of the people the Arc support are on local board of directors and two individuals it supports are participating in a 10 session leadership classes.

Individuals must also complete an application with DDA
Special Considerations/Comments: None. However, most of the individuals have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation/developmental disability.
